ParkwayHealth Gleneagles Shanghai International Hospital Increasing Access to Shanghai's Medical Tourism Industry

Shanghai, China

The Challenge

Design a state-of-the-art, multi-specialty general hospital that embraces the dual purpose of catering to the medical needs of the local community and positioning Shanghai as a premier destination for international visitors seeking medical care in the city. Carefully crafted to promote accessibility, comfort and engagement with patients, it will provide a comprehensive range of health care services.

The Design Solution

The building design for this project was born out of a deep exploration of transformative processes. Its architectural features are masterfully attuned to the surrounding environment, with a particular focus on minimizing the direct heat gain while maximizing daylight. Additionally, the building incorporates several design elements that connect residents with nature, such as balconies, roof gardens and reduced tower footprint that improves natural lighting and ventilation.

Situated within the prestigious New Hongqiao International Medical Center masterplan, this project is strategically located near the Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, providing ease of accessibility for patients from all over Asia and beyond.

The Design Impact

Completed in 2022, the construction of ParkwayHealth Gleneagles Shanghai represents a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into China. Boasting a comprehensive array of services including full-service interventional suites, an infusion center, and a wide range of lifestyle services, this hospital is poised to cater to the diverse health care needs of both the local population and international travelers seeking care. Furthermore, it marks a historic achievement as the first foreign private joint venture hospital to be established within the New Hongqiao International Medical Center, positioning it at the forefront of the industry.
