Project

Ventana by Buckner A Luxury Life Plan Community in the Heart of Dallas

Dallas, TX, USA

The Challenge

Dallas-based Buckner Retirement Services, a division of Buckner Ministries, wanted to build a new urban Life Plan Community — a retirement community that provides licensed care, amenities and lifelong housing — in North Texas.  The site it acquired for the project near the NorthPark Center mall was particularly tricky because of its small size and its proximity to the busy North Central Expressway.

The Design Solution

After studying the site, the design team realized that building a single tower would not succeed in properly accommodating the wide programming needs, given the constraints of the site. Instead, designers created two towers connected through the first five floors, with the buildings angled in such a way as to minimize views from one tower into the other. A 15-degree bend at the center axes of each of the 12-story towers enhances panoramic views and gracefully juxtaposes the buildings on the compact site.

Amenities include a salon and spa, a grand hall, an indoor pool and jacuzzi room, outdoor cooking and living areas, wellness yoga and fitness rooms, a rooftop terrace with private patios, green space, a dog park, a sky lounge and several dining choices.

The Design Impact

Ventana’s clever design and luxe look have drawn press coverage from D Magazine and Senior Housing News. Further, the community has attracted inquiries from even younger seniors because of its prime location and appealing amenities, according to the Buckner Retirement Services.
