Terminus 100 Commons A Community Neighborhood Gathering Place
Atlanta, Georgia, USA
The Challenge
Our client requested a multi-purpose community gathering spot with a rustic hospitality feel nestled within a courtyard and between two modern glass office buildings to promote a greater sense of neighborhood.
The Design Solution
The design provides a dynamic blend of casual and technology rich spaces for community use. The multi-purpose gathering place features digital screens, programmable lighting, sound systems and a robust technology infrastructure. Furnishings were selected for flexibility supporting a wide variety of event functions. A catering kitchen serves small and large venues alike. Retractable glass doors open the space to provide a wealth of natural daylight and encourage connectivity to the exterior pedestrian courtyard plaza, accommodating larger venues. Modern, timeless materials were incorporated including a variety of woods, metals and glass for warmth and a sense of history. In collaboration with our client, a strong advocate of the local arts community, a student design competition was held, which resulted in a variety of hand painted seating groups featured as functional artwork.
The Design Impact
We designed a 2,850-square foot (264 sm) tenant amenity space that provides flexibility of use. The client wants to use the space to reach beyond the towers to work with a nationally-acclaimed art school. And a design competition was created which not only connected the project to a wider audience, but also resulted in unique “functional art” that energizes the space.
