Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Antigua Harmonizing Nature and Luxury through Integrated Design

The Challenge

Challenged to create a cutting-edge resort that leverages the identity of its place and integrates with the mature existing landscape, HKS designed a signature resort and spa experience in a garden-by-the-sea setting for Nikki Beach.

The Design Solution

Nikki Beach Antigua, nestled on the island’s Western coast, embodies the spirit of barefoot luxury.  With state-of-the-art architecture, lush yet modern landscape design, carefully curated interiors by ROAM, and indulgent Nikki Spa services, the resort is a signature beach vacation and nighttime entertainment destination.

Comprised of six residential buildings, four hotel buildings, five luxury villas, three different pool decks, an aquatic center and a beach club, the resort features diverse, bespoke spaces that lead to a transformative guest experience. Residential and hotel buildings all provide remarkable views of the ocean, and rustic yet elegant materials support the garden-by-the-sea ambiance.

The resort’s landscape, pool decks, and numerous water features blend seamlessly with the architecture. Natural limestone paths are embellished by carefully designed planted areas that provide privacy and shade to people relaxing by the pool decks resting on the outdoor furniture. Similarly, landscape design and plantings also screen undesirable visual elements from guest view.  The hardscape directly responds to buildings with carefully designed paths and pool decks that enhance circulation and flow.

The HKS team approached the project as an integrated effort with clear design principles and narratives from early master planning stages through completion. Architecture, landscape and interior design teams remained in constant communication and coordinated project aesthetics and functionality through advanced technology, leading to record-breaking turnarounds and increased efficiencies in the project’s delivery.

The Design Impact

The HKS team made every effort to ensure that Nikki Beach is a flagship travel destination in Antigua. Sense of place, impact on the region, experience and unforgettable moments were just a few of all elements that drove the design.
