Project

Dickies Arena A Stunning, Multifaceted Venue in Fort Worth

Fort Worth, Texas, USA

The Challenge

As architect of record, HKS was asked to deliver a multipurpose arena that could host events ranging from major concerts to rodeos and that channeled the cowboy culture for which the city of Fort Worth is known.

The Design Solution

The 716,000-square-foot Dickies Arena is the new home of the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, located next to the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum campus. The building evokes the Art Deco look of its predecessor, which was built in 1936. Working with David M. Schwarz Architects, HKS designed a roofing deck with sound-absorbing insulation that lowers reverberation during concerts and other events. HKS interior designers were charged with designing the venue’s back-of-house spaces, incorporating wainscoting and high-end carpet into performers’ spaces to create a seamless transition from public to backstage areas.

The new arena features 40 founders suites with premium seating and other upscale seating options, including upscale club suites and Loge box seating. Ticket holders to those areas have access to the North Club, which offers fine dining and a high-end bar. The facility also includes exhibit space and meeting rooms.

The Dickies Arena plaza provides 209,000 square feet of outdoor space to host festivals, concerts and corporate events or even weddings. The plaza connects to the arena parking garage, with guests crossing a pedestrian bridge toward scenic walkways surrounded by green space.

The Design Impact

In addition to the Fort Worth Stock Show, Dickies Arena has been tapped to host the first- and second-round games of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. It is certified LEED Silver.
