The renowned Ritz Carlton brand asked for a luxury resort that compliments the spectacular mountain location, with a lodge aesthetic that recalls the U.S. National Park grand lodge tradition of the American West, replete with all the modern amenities of an all-season recreation destination.
The Design Solution
Featuring uninterrupted views of Vail Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges, Bachelor Gulch’s rustic feel is inspired by Yellowstone’s turn-of-the-century Old Faithful Inn. Harmonizing with its surroundings, the historic inn’s feel is captured on the inside using native stone, logs, and exposed notched and joined timber. The exterior features dormer windows, broad sweeping gables and log balconies. A stone and timber porte-cochère entry welcomes guests and protects them from the elements. The midmountain site in the exclusive Beaver Creek area offers year-round activities and village-to-village ski options.
The Design Impact
Considered one of the finest all-season luxury resorts in its class, the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch is included in Condé Nast Traveler magazine’s exclusive Platinum Circle, has been named to its Gold 100 Hotels List and was named No. 14 in its list of Top 50 Ski Hotels in North America in 2012.
