The hospital has to be more than just a place where patients go to get better. A hospital visit is about more than just an illness. It’s about the family. It’s about the physicians. It’s about the patient. And in order to make a difference, a hospital has to be greater than the illness. It has to express the resolve of its patients. It has to be extraordinary.

Making Extraordinary Differences
Rising over the treetops, the sweeping curves of the hospital towers embody the promise to make extraordinary differences in the lives of women, children and their families. The entire experience of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital now reflects the University of Michigan Health System’s legacy of internationally renowned specialized healthcare for women and children. Designed to inspire and delight the young and young-at- heart, patients, family and staff are invited on a journey of discovery and wonder with inspirations from the unique botanic, geologic and artistic heritage, and seasonal weather patterns of the area. Focused on evidence-informed optimal patient experience, the challenges of the small site translated to a high-rise solution that maximizes patient room panoramic views to 140 acres of picturesque arboretum river valley. This distinctive landmark is respectfully integrated into the health system campus for operational synergy, clarity of wayfinding and contextual harmony through material and color. The 1.1-million-square-foot facility is a sustainable community member, achieving LEED Silver certification.
