HKS prepared a master plan for a new urban district near Ho Chi Minh City. The site’s two rivers and newly constructed bridge are used as development armature for the master plan which preserves the natural and man-made character of each precinct and transforms it into distinctive settings for residential, retail, office and cultural uses.
The plan features open spaces, canals, tidelands, as well as a network of streets, walkways, and building types that link to public transit. In addition to managing tidal flows, the canals provide another means of accessing the new district. The land under the elevated ramps for the bridge is activated with recreational and market uses to bring the two sides together and mitigate the bridge’s monumental presence at the street plane.
