Strength. Innovation begins with strong infrastructure. The RadioShack Riverfront Campus was designed with both innovation and infrastructure in mind. The RadioShack Data Center on the corporate campus is the epicenter of behind-the-scenes activity. Storing, protecting and processing information necessary for the company’s operations, the data center must remain functional at all times.
HKS’ mission critical team assisted RadioShack in determining their project-level criticality and found a design solution to meet it. The result is a thoughtfully executed and well balanced facility, as the system is only as strong as its weakest link.
Data Center (raised floor) 20,000 square feet
Data Center (support space) 25,000 square feet
Tier 2+++ Classification
20,000 sf of raised floor
Dual electrical feeds
2N UPS system
2N power distribution units
N+1 CRAC units
N+1 central plant chilled water support
Pre-action fire suppression
High sensitivity smoke detection
Human error is the most common threat to mission critical systems. With the high value RadioShack places on connectivity, the design team sought to introduce “human proof” elements in the solution. By balancing maintenance processes with contingent components, the aim was to create a system prepared for any disruptions.
The RadioShack Data Center is classified as a Tier 2+++ mission critical system. The design mitigates the center’s susceptibility to disruptions from planned and unplanned activity. Redundant components throughout the center’s systems support its ability to be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Tier 3 and Tier 4 elements further secure the reliability, availability, and serviceability of the data center, featuring dual path 15kV feeders, 2N power distribution and a 2N UPS system.
