HKS Headquarters
Dallas, TX

In the design of our headquarters, HKS sought to illustrate our unique approach to architecture and interior design. Our design goals were to highlight HKS’ commitment to design excellence,  to the wellbeing of our employees, and to our community.

Completed on the eve of our 75th anniversary, HKS Headquarters comprises the first seven floors within a larger mixed-use development, One Dallas Center, located in Dallas’ central business district. Once languishing and dilapidated, today One Dallas Center injects new dynamism into its surrounding area and has become a focal point for downtown revitalization. In addition to updating the building’s 15 stories of premium office space and 15 stories of residential units, we are also designing the adjacent public park, slated to break ground in 2018.

Workplace design at HKS Headquarters prioritizes teamwork by offering a variety of collaborative spaces to support choice and diverse work styles:

LINE STUDIO: Located adjacent to glass walls at street level, LINE, the Laboratory for Intensive Investigation, is an HKS design research team that focuses on the intersection between emerging technologies and architectural methodologies. Passersby can view the LINE studio space from public spaces within the building as well as the adjacent sidewalk.

LEARNING CENTER: We host company-wide events and public events such as our sustainability-focused “Green Week” symposia in our collaborative learning center on the first floor.

TRANSPARENCY: In addition to highlighting the learning center and LINE studio at street level, a central stair connects employees from every floor. Our open-office layout encourages employees to be transparent and accessible to all.

HKS LAB: On the seventh floor, the HKS Lab offers our design teams a dedicated maker space for researchers to prototype, test and apply design research in a facility outfitted with equipment such as 3-D printers and environmental sensors.

BIM ROOM: Our Business Information Modeling (BIM) Room enables HKS team members, our clients and partners around the globe to collaborate remotely while leveraging shared BIM models, remote-controlled cameras and virtual reality.

Sustainable design underpins all our work, and we sought to celebrate and demonstrate it prominently in our LEED Platinum headquarters. We showcase best practices including eco-friendly building materials, smart shades and LED lights. Because employee wellbeing is a priority for HKS, 95% of our employees work within 25 feet of windows and natural lighting.
