Thinking beyond. That’s what it takes to transform a world-class football stadium into something far greater. A place that is a destination beyond football. Beyond Sundays. A year-round, worldwide landmark.
The mission was delivered concisely to the HKS Interiors Group by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones: “Just think of this building as the newest, unrivaled destination point that just happens to have football games in it 10 times a year. On the other 355 days it must be able to chameleon into so much more.”
The largest NFL venue, AT&T Stadium is host to eight premium club spaces and four unique branded bar experiences designed to fit the various seating, suite and club packages. Concepts for each space hit varying levels of luxury per target audience. The stadium also houses the first-ever NFL Sideline Club, which offers the most distinctive team access opportunities in the NFL. This dynamic clubroom is designed for players to pass directly through when entering or exiting the playing field, allowing spectators unrivaled access to their favorite players.
Stadium suites provide the ultimate luxury in fan experience. Each offers private restrooms, fully appointed service areas, individual climate control, integrated state-of-the-art technology packages and fully upholstered theater-style box seats.
Unlike an earlier generation of raw-boned stadiums, AT&T Stadium provides visitors with the feeling of walking through a five-star hotel. The stones were selected after several expeditions to Italy in search of unique slabs that rarely have been used elsewhere. The luxury suites were built with exotic woods, custom millwork and fabrics, Italian glass tiles and leathers, but the emphasis is on clear and straightforward design.
The quality of interior architecture, finish and materials underscores the goal for AT&T Stadium to be much more than a venue for sports events and concerts — it is an icon.
The building’s evolution also sparked revolutionary concepts of its own, including creation of a collection of contemporary art. Inspired by the stadium’s own architecture, the pieces become one with the building through the skill and vision of each commissioned artist. This unexpected element creates a unique experience for the visitor. The artwork is located throughout all circulation and public spaces in the stadium, enhancing the fan experience.
Among the many design challenges of a building this size is to make it feel inviting rather than overwhelming. A Gothic cathedral, for example, employs human-scaled ornamental details to bring intimacy to its space. Such details, however, would be lost on a 21st century stadium, so the structure instead offers transparency and light, an invitation for the interior environment to interact with the outdoors and benefit from the 360-degree views inside and out. The stadium’s daylighting is a dynamic architectural element in itself, able to provide drama to suit the character of any event.
AT&T Stadium is the culmination of visionary leadership, historical precedent and contemporary innovation that changes the way the world experiences sports and entertainment.
