Capital Brands is a health product developer, marketer and distributor best known for creating the Nutribullet and Magic Bullet, a line of nutrient extracting blenders. Having outgrown their previous space, Capital Brands chose a new 20,000 square foot location within an existing commercial office building on Los Angeles’ legendary Wilshire Boulevard. HKS’ design for Capital Brands focused on wellbeing, to create an authentic, branded environment that fosters health for employees, clients and the company’s bottom line.
Designed as a one-stop-shop for the integration of Capital Brands’ business needs, the headquarters includes a demonstration kitchen, a multimedia editing room, and an engineering lab. Utilized for production shoots, the demonstration kitchen doubles as a stage for live nutrition demos when a skyfold wall is raised. Reconfigurable seating in a central garden lounge accommodates up to 100 local students for lessons in healthy living. The engineering lab’s large screen facilitates global collaboration with team members.
A clean, neutral environment welcomes visitors and employees in the main elevator lobby, where a large display monitor features video illustrating the company’s products and vision. A wood trellis in the ceiling leads to the garden lounge, a gathering space fenced with reclaimed wood and steel elements. Live plants and various product displays surround the perimeter of the entry and further delineate the space.
Shared work areas are wrapped in reclaimed wood, and more than 60% of the staff uses adjustable sit/stand desks. Ample natural light and views of the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean connect people inside the space to the natural landscape beyond. An employee kitchen, separate from the demonstration kitchen, is fully stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables, and a barista crafts healthy juices for visitors and employees throughout the day.
