HKS was asked to create a vision for a new town development with a striking coastline along a deep-water bay in the Dominican Republic. The challenge for this assignment was to create an ecologically sensitive community that balanced a mix of marine, residential, retail, hospitality, institutional, cultural, agricultural and recreational uses.
The development vision quantified site capacity and described a strategy to increase real estate value during each phase of the buildout. The plan extends the experience of the waterfront throughout the site, leverages solar and wind elements and carefully clusters new interventions. Boca Cana intends to become a model for development in the Caribbean.
