Ananda in the Sahyadris
Maharashtra, India

Scheduled to open in 2018, Ananda in the Sahyadris is a destination resort and spa tucked away within the pristine isolation of a UNESCO conservation area. This luxury resort and its branded residences are sprinkled across the shores of five private lakes in the Western Ghats mountain range of Maharashtra, India. The architecture and design of Ananda aspire to create a seamless transition between the natural beauty of the exteriors and the elegance of the interior spaces.

Ananda features 20 individual villa suites, 50 branded residences and a 60-key hotel that faces the largest lake of the property. The residences, scattered around the five private lakes, grant guests an exclusive mix of privacy and sophisticated service. A 30,000-square foot spa and wellness center at the heart of the estate functions as an anchor for the surrounding accommodations. Wide courtyards, shaded walkways, open verandas and spacious decks connect guests to the exquisite, verdant landscape.

To respect the harmony between this resort, nearby communities and the surrounding terrain, designers took special care to sacrifice fewer than 10 trees during construction. The building relies heavily upon solar energy, and conserves water by harvesting and storing rainwater during monsoon season for irrigation during more arid parts of the year.  In addition to conserving water on site, the resort’s harvested rainwater will also replenish the wells of neighboring villages, providing locals with an abundant water supply.
