“An architect’s greatest accomplishment is fulfilling their client’s vision.”
To Matt, architecture is a true renaissance profession. Not only must architects understand how to transform a two-dimensional drawing into a three-dimensional building, but they have to understand how to instruct the contractor properly, while wrapping themselves with the right people to complete the project. “We are still that renaissance designer, wearing many hats,” says Matt. “Good architecture is really the essence of going from art to construction.” Art has always interested Matt from an early age, and he still makes time for painting and charcoal art when he can. In fact, his first project at HKS was an art museum in Naples, Florida. “I get to do a little bit of everything,” he says. “There aren’t many project types I haven’t worked on.” From his involvement on a boutique art museum to a massive performing arts center, Matt realizes how lucky he is and how much he enjoys making an impact through his profession. “Running an office and having a hand in each project, you sort of have to be an expert in everything, and that’s one of the most fun things about my job.”
