“Problem-solving is one aspect of a project that architects face, either through difficult briefs, constrained sites or tight budgets. My interests lie in producing excellent design by challenging the typical response in order to produce stimulating and well thought-out solutions.”
When Francis was growing up in Scotland, he spent his free time drawing, model-making and creating structures from an array of domestic and industrial materials. This creative nature fueled his desire to pursue architecture, and to constantly test his design theories. “I regularly test new ideas through architectural competitions to see how viable and effective they would be in the real world.” Francis is responsible for the HKS UK Office and also specializes in healthcare and education sectors, in which he constantly remains committed to explore and test new concepts and methods for designs that are both functional and beautiful.
