HKS, Inc. has announced that Crystal Barriscale, AIA, AICP, LEED AP BD+C, has joined its San Francisco office as vice president and west coast director of urban design.

Barriscale brings to HKS nearly 30 years of urban planning and architecture design experience in the public and institutional sectors, including urban, waterfront and transit projects, and master planning for university, healthcare and research campuses. Her architectural experience includes commercial, retail and interiors projects. Barriscale collaborates with Randy Morton, director of the HKS Urban Design Studio in New York.

Most recently, Barriscale was director of planning and landscape architecture for HOK in San Francisco. Throughout her career, she has led award-winning projects from inception to implementation. Some of her Bay Area projects include Bay Meadows in San Mateo, Kaiser Permanente’s Redwood City Medical Campus, the Transbay Transit Center Site Design and Streetscape Plan in San Francisco, and the City of Fremont Downtown Community Plan. While practicing in New York, Barriscale’s planning and urban design work included the Lincoln Center Capital Improvement Plan, Battery Park City Authority Urban Design consulting, Indiana University Master Planner, and Governors Island Land Use Plan.

Barriscale is a member of the AIA and is licensed to practice architecture in California, Nevada, New Jersey and New York. She is NCARB, AICP, and LEED AP BD+C certified. Barriscale graduated magna cum laude from the New York Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, and received her master’s in architecture and urban design from Columbia University.
