The design competition highlights the area’s best architects, designers and allied professionals. Entries are judged by an independent expert jury panel composed of academics and professionals from the fields of architecture and design.
The recently completed Orlando Regional Medical Center Expansion is a comprehensive reimagining of Orlando Health’s core campus in downtown Orlando. This opportunity to completely recreate the ORMC campus was guided by Orlando Health’s “Patient First” principles. The design team sought to create a campus that is representative of the community’s culture while articulating the center’s future vision. At the core of every design decision, the team sought to enhance the human experience by creating a healing environment with a calm, nurturing ambience. The project includes a new hospital entry and lobby; a 10-story patient tower; and an expanded Emergency Department, lab, surgery suite and cardiovascular platform; as well as numerous clinical support renovations and infrastructural improvements. The ORMC Expansion features a host of concierge-style amenities – all nestled in a building that reflects the natural beauty of Florida – blending medicine and design.
Tradition Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, a distinctive 90-bed satellite hospital, opened its doors December 18, 2013. The building is sited to maximize views to nature, especially from patient rooms and public spaces like the lobby and dining area. Eastern and western exposures are minimized to promote energy savings. The hospital features articulated fenestration and detailing, as well as a stair tower to facilitate wayfinding and accentuate the main hospital entrance. Natural light and views to nature were introduced to accelerate healing, reduce medical errors and enhance wayfinding inside the facility. The corridors of the hospital’s bed tower and diagnostic and treatment block terminate in views of nature, rather than additional rooms or stair towers. It includes an emergency room, labor and delivery services, surgery, general medical services and digital imaging.
