Recognized as an up-and-coming leader, Ellen Mitchell-Kozack was named an emerging leader by the Design Futures Council.

The 2013 Emerging Leaders Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the 12th annual Leadership Summit on Sustainable Design to be held October 6-8 in Minneapolis.

In 2012, Mitchell-Kozack was named to the Emerging Leaders Program by AIA Dallas. Through this program, she co-founded the CityWalk at Akard Playground Project for children of formerly homeless and at-risk families. She is also a noted industry LEED expert, moderating LEEDuser.com forum, as well as an associate editor of sustainability for Commercial Real Estate Network Magazine. She has orchestrated 30 LEED projects totaling $2.4 billion in construction.

Inspired by the book, “Design Like You Give a Damn,” Mitchell-Kozack knew that her life’s work would include promoting the power of architecture in improving lives. As member of the HKS DesignGreen department, she offers sustainable services for all project types – from healthcare to commercial to sports. These services include assisting the project design teams with innovative sustainable strategies, managing project-specific LEED documentation, and researching new sustainable products and technologies.

Mitchell-Kozack is responsible for working with architectural and engineering professionals to certify LEED buildings throughout the world. She has been responsible for overseeing the LEED process through each phase of development, from the early design stages to close-out. In addition, she has been instrumental in developing companywide tools and templates to be used for any HKS project pursuing LEED certification.

HKS, Inc. is a leading architectural design firm ranked among the top five architectural/engineering firms, according to Building Design+Construction magazine. Since its founding in 1939, HKS has completed construction projects totaling more than $75 billion in more than 1,263 cities located in 80 countries. The firm operates from 28 offices worldwide.
