Hospitals are often sick buildings, and the built environment is known to have a measurable impact on health outcomes. Dr. Upali Nanda will moderate this panel’s discussion of how the stage on which is health care is delivered can alter the experience and efficacy of care. Panelists include a surgeon, an emergency physician, a designer and an architect. Each panelist will do a short presentation and then discuss how built environments need to respond to health challenges to create fresh opportunities.

Technology is advancing at a rapid rate and insurance policies and mechanisms seem just as speculative. In this climate of uncertainty, we are posed with the question of how can we design facilities for the future? We will share research and real life case studies that exemplify these concepts. There will be a forum discussion to assess how primary care clinics must be fundamentally rethought to achieve transformation in health. Finally, we will share insights from a 2017 survey to see how the new administration has impacted patient/provider expectations around place, policy and technology.
