HKS remains among the top healthcare-specialized architectural firms, completing $3.9 billion of healthcare construction in 2014, according to Modern Healthcare’s March 23, 2015 Construction & Design Survey.
Among architectural and engineering firms, HKS has been ranked in the top three – for area and value of healthcare construction put in place – for the past 20 years. During that period, the firm was responsible for more healthcare construction than any other.
The firm’s award-winning healthcare architecture includes 2,000 unique projects representing 80,000 beds and 184 million square feet. The individualized, award-winning, community-based healthcare facilities have garnered more than 200 design awards for projects that embrace and facilitate holistic healthcare.
According to the article, construction and design firms’ focus on innovation and outpatient facilities suggests the industry is adjusting to a broader transformation in the healthcare industry.
According to HKS Health Design Group Director Jeffrey Stouffer, today’s sophisticated healthcare clients are looking for innovative design solutions for their complex issues. “However, they are expecting design firms to bring holistic solutions that encompass research outcomes to support evidence-influenced design, operational best practices to support efficient planning, and high-performance materials and systems to add value for the life of the building.”
“‘Faster, better, more value, less waste, sustainable and safe’ is the new mantra,” Stouffer continued. “HKS is being challenged to deliver projects with proven collaborative integration and transformative delivery processes that remove waste, improve outcomes and meet clients'’ conditions of satisfaction.”
Growing and learning with the ever-changing healthcare industry, HKS continues to play an instrumental role in many national healthcare organizations such as The American College of Healthcare Executives, Academy of Architecture for Health, Society of Ambulatory Care Professionals, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, the American Hospital Association, the American College of Healthcare Architects and the Health Facility Institute.
HKS, Inc. is a leading architectural design firm ranked among the top five architectural engineering firms, according to Building Design+Construction magazine. Since its founding in 1939, HKS has completed construction projects totaling more than $77 billion in more than 1,648 cities located in 84 countries. The firm operates from 26 offices worldwide.
