HKS’ Kirk Teske Elevated to AIA’s Prestigious College of Fellows
The College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has selected HKS’ Kirk Teske for election to its distinguished ranks, an honor that is bestowed upon architects who make significant contributions to the profession.
“Kirk has worked tirelessly throughout his career on solutions that create exceptional projects and outcomes that address challenging design and societal issues,” said Ralph Hawkins, FAIA, FACHA, LEED AP, HKS chairman. “This is a well-deserved honor, and we’re extremely proud and fortunate to have Kirk’s leadership and vision on our team.”
Election to fellowship is not only in recognition of the achievements of architects as individuals, but also their significant contribution to architecture and society on a large scale and national level.
Teske joined HKS in 1984. He currently performs a dual-capacity role as the firm’s chief operating officer and chief sustainability officer. In fall 2014, Teske was designated a LEED Fellow, an honor bestowed by the Green Building Certification Institute upon the most exemplary professionals in the green building industry. In 2013, he became the first recipient of the Dallas Green Steward Award, presented by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for his significant contributions to sustainable building and to the Dallas USGBC Chapter. The Dallas Business Journal’s Who’s Who in Energy Award recognized Teske for his work in energy conservation and alternative energy development in the region. He is the only executive who has received this honor for three consecutive years (2012 through 2014). Teske served as AIA Dallas Chapter President in 2013; is a board member of the Dallas Center for Architecture, and is the founding chair of the USGBC North Texas Chapter. He also served on the USGBC Chapter Steering Committee and is the chair of the AIA Dallas Committee on the Environment. Teske and his team have registered and LEED-certified more than 100 million square feet of space across all building types throughout the U.S., which is a direct result of his leadership in founding HKS’ sustainability practice.
This year, the AIA Jury of Fellows has inducted 147 members to its prestigious College of Fellows. Teske becomes the 14th AIA Fellow within the ranks of HKS.
Teske and the Class of 2015 Fellows will be honored at an investiture ceremony at the AIA Convention 2015, to be held in Atlanta in May.
