HKS India Design Consulting Pvt. Ltd. was awarded design and planning services for the Sahara Group’s new state-of-the-art medical hospital in its Aamby Valley development, located near Mumbai, India.
“This is a very exciting opportunity to work with Sahara, a company that has a sizable presence in commercial development, sports, hospitality and now in healthcare,” said Gaurav Chopra, principal and managing director, HKS India. HKS was selected based on its established proficiency in healthcare design, after an interview process including other international firms.
Aamby Valley is a 10,000-acre, high-end luxury development set in the pristine Sahyadri hills, about two hours from India’s commercial capital Mumbai. The Sahara Group’s goal is to develop the community into a fully functional, seven-star and first-choice settlement for the discerning ultra-high net worth homebuyer.
Aamby Valley will provide all infrastructure associated with a township. The centerpiece of this infrastructure is the new 200-bed hospital, designed to provide International Standard healthcare services in all specialties as well as luxury amenities for patients and visitors.
Sited next to a man-made lake with views to the mountains on the east and the north, the hospital design responds to its lush yet pristine environment. Its contemporary form is a glass-encased structure that is inspired by the ripples of a pond, a serene glass shell that both blends into and reflects its surroundings. The curved massing is a response to the topography of the site, as well as a solution to maximize the number of patient rooms facing the lake.
The new hospital will also be available to the low-income populace of rural settlements abutting Aamby Valley. Siddharth Puri, designer with HKS, said, “The hospital design also successfully represents HKS as one firm with a global presence. The design was a true collaboration among the Delhi, Bangalore, Salt Lake City and Indianapolis offices. Additional support was also provided by the Shanghai office.”
HKS is ranked among the top healthcare architectural firms in the world by Modern Healthcare and BD World Architecture.
