The Orlando office of HKS Architects, Inc. was recognized with the Firm of the Year Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Orlando Chapter during the organization’s Design Excellence Gala. The annual gala, which was held on April 5 at the Orlando Country Club, celebrates the people behind outstanding architectural design in the Central Florida area.

“The AIA Orlando Design Excellence Awards recognize outstanding architectural achievements, and the HKS Orlando team is very humbled by this honor,” said Matt Clear, AIA, LEED AP, principal and HKS Orlando office director. “We have worked hard to foster an environment for growth and success, which we’re proud to celebrate alongside others in the architectural community.”

In addition to being named Firm of the Year, HKS Orlando also received an Award of Honor for the Florida International University (FIU) Parkview Housing project. Parkview Housing is an on-campus residence hall at FIU, providing more than 600 students with new housing that promotes an active live/learn community environment through a variety of common-use spaces. The project is located in the southwest quadrant of the campus, just north of the university’s football stadium. The building creates a forecourt to game-day activities and is positioned to overlook the campus’ nature preserve, providing students with a variety of informal community spaces to enrich their residential life experiences on campus. Parkview is seeking LEED Gold certification.

The Orlando Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Orlando) serves architect, associate and allied members. By advancing shared values of community, knowledge and advocacy, AIA members strive to create better green designs and through such resources and access are committed to reducing energy consumption in the built environment. AIA Orlando is one of the largest AIA chapters in the state of Florida. For more information, visit www.aiaorlando.com.
