Reflecting a resurgent economy and hotel investor’s renewed appetite for development across all lodging types, the HKS Hospitality Group is cooking with gas, successfully landing a bevy of significant commissions and new projects, including:
“It has been an upbeat year,” said Nunzio DeSantis, FAIA, LEED AP, HKS executive vice president. “Our clients are getting back on track with projects that were put on hold during the recession, including urban redevelopment in top domestic markets and repositioning of existing hotels that were acquired over the past few years.” DeSantis also notes that the lifestyle category is on the rise, with several top hotel brands making recent announcements of significant capital investment in this market segment.
“Unique to their location, customized guest services, local flavor and entertainment offerings – the lifestyle hotel is catering to a new generation of traveler seeking an enriching, fulfilling experience,” DeSantis added.
According to DeSantis, the group meeting and convention center hotel market segments have made a strong 2014 showing. Urban business and convention hotel properties are expanding and renovating their existing facilities to attract meeting business through fresh modern design and amenities, including inviting exterior spaces, collaborative workspace areas, retail, and food and beverage offerings reflecting their urban settings, as well as technology overhauls to meet visitor’s business and social needs.
For HKS, international hospitality development is equally brisk. “Exotic locales in Latin America, Europe and the Middle East are in demand as the airlines continue to expand their air lift capacity. Many new and exciting destinations are opening up for development, and renovation and interior design work is a relevant part of the mix,” commented DeSantis.
HKS Hospitality Group specializes in the design of sophisticated urban hotels, unique destination resorts and luxurious spas, entertainment, gaming and convention hotels, boutique properties, hospitality interiors and world-class golf clubhouses. With construction underway on five continents, HKS’ hospitality practice is ranked as one of the top in the nation and the world, according to BD World Architecture, Hotel Business and Hotel Design. Operating from 27 offices worldwide, the firm has designed projects in 45 countries garnering numerous awards and coverage in national and international publications.
