This past month has flown by! I truly feel part of the London office and I am so glad I have made some great connections here. I am so grateful HKS has provided this opportunity for the company to connect internationally though culture and work.

The project I have been working for -Meihua Women & Children’s Hospital- was delivered last week. I learn so much from this project; as the project evolved I became more and more interested in Medical Planning. I had great people around me everyday who were nice and patient enough to share their knowledge with me. They made me become really passionate about the theme and the project. The whole team worked really hard and I learn a lot from each one of the members of my team, it was a great team and I believe we delivered a great project! Last Saturday we went for dinner together to a really nice Beijing type restaurant to try their famous Pekin duck! It was my goodbye dinner and we also celebrated the ending of Meihua project.

The anticipation and excitement for my first trip was in part thanks to so many from the office sending me their recommendations on things to do, see, drive, eat, and drink.

Monday I visited another education project, Triumph Preparatory. The project is still under construction and consists of a warehouse being converted into a school. The education group designed a series of skylights and light wells throughout the corridors to distribute natural light within this box like warehouse. Each light well will be painted a different color when complete. The level of detail and fenestration configuration is unlike anything I’ve seen in a high school.

These past few weeks have been a whirlwind! I feel I can go home with a complete British experience now that I have spotted Prince William and Prince Harry out on the town! I saw them while I was out with a friend a few weekends ago by Sloan Square and it was confirmed in a news article they were there the next day… Very exciting!

I have been extremely busy in the office recently working with the hospitality team on the Ananda Roha Destination Spa and Resort in Maharashtra, India! I have been able to watch the process of this project from the very beginning stages and it has given me a great understanding of how the hospitality team executes a very large resort project… Starting from hand sketches, diagrams and artist renderings, moving to CAD then to modeling the design in 3D. The client booklets that are printed are beautiful and laid out in InDesign. Luis, Luciano, Melissa, Farah and David have been amazing mentors and I am so grateful I have been able to learn from them.
